TURNING NEWS INTO TOPICS

Turning News into Topics thumbnail

At Topics, our mission is simple: we want intermediate language learners to dive into real content much earlier than they’d normally feel comfortable. We do this by adapting any given material to match your language level.

Of all the possible resources out there (books, magazines, music, you name it), we’re focusing on stories and news right now.

Why News?

News is an awesome way to learn a language because it covers events and topics you already have some context for. Reading about familiar subjects makes it way easier to pick up new words and phrases—even when you’re encountering them in a different language.

News in Topics v2

We’ve given our news section a big upgrade in the newest version of Topics. Instead of browsing each news channel individually, you’ll now find a News Timeline right in the Topics tab. Just glance at the timeline and pick a story that piques your interest—simple as that!

Built on RSS

Our news channels run on top of public RSS feeds. That means we can pull in the latest stories and convert them into language lessons automatically.

Custom RSS Channels

Got your own favorite RSS feed? We’ve added the option to add custom channels so you can bring in the news sources you love most. Once your feed is connected, we’ll convert those articles into lessons, too. You’ll see them listed in the same timeline, ready for you to learn from.

We hope this makes tackling real-world news in your target language feel less intimidating and a whole lot more fun.
